Westfield architect completes 2nd book in children's series during coronavirus pandemic

How many architects do you know who also want to be an author of children’s books? That was the goal of Westfield architect Gary Vance. "On my bucket list was to write a children's book about architecture," Vance said. "I was smart enough to say, 'Well, I'm not just going to do one. If we're going to do it, we're going to do a series.'"

Second book in the Kid Architect Series Released

Kid Architect loves exploring cities, their buildings, landscapes and public art throughout the state of Indiana. "Kid Architect Goes to Indiana" is the second book in the series oriented for children from Kindergarten through High School who enjoy learning about architecture and the related design professions. The content provides exploration, encourages critical thinking and teaches science, technology, engineering, architecture and math ( STEAM ) concepts in a fun and casual format for everyone.

Westfield Architect Creates Book Series for Kids

The Kid Architect book series was featured in an article and interview in the weekly newspaper, the Current in Westfield. The article announced the June, 2020 release of the second book in the series, "Kid Architect Goes to Indiana". In addition, the article describes the origin of the book series and that it is a family affair, with all of the stateside adult children of Denise and Gary Vance involved in the design and management of the book series.

Planned Book Release- "Kid Architect Goes to Indiana"

The second book in the series, "Kid Architect Goes to Indiana" is currently being finalized and will be available in June, 2020. This book features Kid Architect exploring and discovering important buildings and public art throughout the state Indiana. The journey covers the entire state from north to south and from east to west. The buildings featured are located in large cities and small towns as well as the buildings are both large and small. In addition, the public art featured is both old and new as well very diverse and interesting.

Kid Architect Book Announcement in ACHA (American College of Healthcare Architects) Newsletter

The Newsletter for the ACHA, "e-Voice", included an announcement that the children's book, "Kid Architect Goes to Columbus, Indiana" has been published and is available. The author of the book, Gary Vance is a founding member and Fellow of the ACHA.

Innovation Night with Parents and Children - Washington Woods Elementary School - Westfield Washington School System

School Innovation Leaders planned, developed and implemented a very successful event that involved 1st and 2nd grade children and parents for a Kid Architect STEAM night at the school. The two projects the teams planned, designed and built their concept for one building and one landscape which are actually going to be constructed in the community. The 1st Grade teams utilized their imaginative design thinking to develop a design for the interior of the downtown community theater currently under construction in downtown Westfield. The 2nd Grade teams utilized their imaginative design thinking to develop a design of a large exterior garden which is funded and to be constructed at Washington Woods Elementary School.

School Innovation Leaders planned, developed and implemented a very successful event that involved the 3rd and 4th grade children and parents for a Kid Architect STEAM night at the school. The two projects the teams planned, designed and built their concept for two buildings which are actually going to be constructed in the community. The 3rd Grade teams utilized their imaginative design thinking to develop a design for the new Westfield YMCA currently under construction in Westfield. The 4th grade teams utilized their imaginative design thinking to develop a design for a Planetarium and Space Center currently being planned adjacent to Grand Park in Westfield.
